DUCKLING named ELVIS. Unusual pet boarded at Manoir Kanisha

In June, one of our clients found  an unusually heavy bird egg outdoor.  There waited and no mother bird was around. They assumed it was an abandoned egg.  They decided to keep it warm and see what would happen. A cute little duckling was hatched. They decided to feed him and raise him as a pet.  As a result a DUCKLING named ELVIS. Unusual pet boarded at Manoir Kanisha

He is now 8 weeks old and nicely domesticated. He loves his owners.

In his condo, we provide him with a large red tub of water.

During his playtime sessions, we bring outdoor in our large playground.

He is definitely a waterfowl species. He loved to place his head in the water and play in our outdoor pools. He also loves to be held in our arms.

Many people have raised abandoned wild duckling as pets. Generally, they are Mallard Duckling.

“Mallard ducklings are more likely to be found in the first 24 hours after hatch as the mother may have to lead them a fair way to water resulting in a few getting left behind. During the first week, out of a clutch of 12, she is likely to lose most of them. Most mallard mums will end up with 2-4 ducklings surviving to adulthood.

Although ducklings get straight onto water after they have hatched, they will have already had the benefit of being waterproofed by their mother. Ducklings with no mother, have to work much harder to waterproof themselves.  You need to exercise caution in regard to any water they may be able to enter. A waterlogged duckling can drown or die from hypothermia surprisingly fast.

After they have hatched, the ducklings survive for 24 hours on the yolk sac they have absorbed just before hatching. Consequently, they may not be interested in eating or drinking during the first few hours after their rescue.” Read more of this interesting article at the following link:
