The first year in\u00a01990, we started the construction of\u00a0Phase I, which included\u00a0a reception area, a small dog boarding area, a grooming room and the employee house.\u00a0Two small\u00a0houses were carried\u00a0on a flat bed\u00a0truck and placed\u00a0on a\u00a0large empty field at 175 Jenkins in Dorval.<\/p>\n
A substantial loan, initially promised by a Charter Bank, was withdrawn at the very last minute because of our land lease. So here we were, situated in the middle of an open field without water, electricity, natural gas and no financial assistance. In effect, we had nothing\u2026\u00a0just a grand dream and the determination required to make it happen.<\/p>\n
Phase II\u00a0was conceived and built in\u00a01992. It included the construction on the west building containing our Dog Training Hall (now used for our Geriatric Canine), offices and the owner\u2019s appartment.<\/p>\n
During this period we started to offer cat boarding. In 1996 our name was modified and re-baptized as Manoir Kanisha (\u2018Kani\u2019 = dog, \u2018sha\u2019 = cat, in French). With the asistance of our accountant, we structured our\u00a0Board of Directors and finally obtained a Small Business Loan (SBL)\u00a0from the Royal Bank of Canada. This loan was\u00a0guaranteed by the Federal Government.<\/p>\n
In\u00a01997\u00a0we built our\u00a0Phase III, the North building, comprising a large two-story dog kennel. This allowed us to expand our dog boarding spaces which were\u00a0 essential during peak periods. We also built the garage to hold all our seasonal equipment.<\/p>\n
Finally in\u00a02004, thanks to the assistance of the BDF (Federal Development Bank) and a very cooperative\u00a0investor, we obtained a significant loan to complete our\u00a0Phase IV. This last Phase allowed us to finish the central area that contains the dog condos, the cat condos, enclosures and crates, the employee\u2019s kitchen, the cat playroom, a large interior dog playground (90\u2032 x 90\u2032) and three workshops. This new construction allowed us to link together\u00a0all the previous buildings constructed\u00a0between 1990 and 2004. In\u00a02011,\u00a0we reconstructed all the outside decking and rebuilt\u00a0 our large\u00a0outdoor dog runs.<\/p>\n
In\u00a01988\u00a0the founder, Nicole MacDuff launched her project entirely alone. In\u00a02022, the Manoir Kanisha employs 12 people year round, rising to 16 persons during peak periods.<\/p>\n
