{"id":2857,"date":"2023-07-12T11:51:18","date_gmt":"2023-07-12T16:51:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/?page_id=2857"},"modified":"2024-07-08T14:40:20","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T19:40:20","slug":"stories-and-games","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/en\/stories-and-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Stories about your Pets"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>This chapter is dedicated to our client\u2019s stories about their pet(s).<\/h3>\n<p>If you would like to share a special story\u00a0about your animal (s), <a href=\"mailto:nicole@manoirkanisha.com\">please send it to me by E-Mail<\/a> and I will place in this chapter.\u00a0It would be so nice if you could include a few pictures of your \u201cBest Friend\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>We are looking forward to receive and share\u00a0your special pet\u2019s story,<\/p>\n<p>Nicole MacDuff \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 E-mail: \u00a0nicole@manoirkanisha.com<\/p>\n<p>======================================================================<\/p>\n<h2>This is how YUKI came into my life\u2026<\/h2>\n<p>From: Susan Stevenson<br \/>\nSent:\u00a0April-05-16 1:44 PM<br \/>\nTo:\u00a0Nicole MacDuff<\/p>\n<h4>Subject:\u00a0This how YUKI came into my life\u2026<\/h4>\n<p>Nicole,<\/p>\n<p>Just out of interest, I thought you might find this story interesting<\/p>\n<p>Yuki is a very special dog\u2026\u2026 I had taken a stray cat into the vet to get fixed. \u00a0She was a very special cat that came into our back yard and meowed \u00a0her way into our lives. \u00a0To be honest with you, I am not a big cat fan. \u00a0This cat wrapped herself around my legs and talked and talked and talked her way into my world.<\/p>\n<p>I finally gave in. \u00a0We fed her, bathed her, and housed her. \u00a0Then we took her to the vet to get fixed. \u00a0I received a call from the vet to say, we were not able to tell that she was already fixed until we operated AND she was already fixed. \u00a0I felt awful that we put her through this ordeal for a second time. \u00a0I quickly went to the vet to console her (console myself to be honest) and when I went there, Yuki was in a crate.<\/p>\n<p>She was so beautiful I asked the vet to open the crate. \u00a0She gracefully came out of the crate and warmed up to me instantly. \u00a0I asked the vet who she belonged to\u2026\u2026 Unfortunately nobody. \u00a0I had just taken two strays into my life and thought \u201cI cannot take another with my three shih tzu\u2019s and two strays and now a cat. \u00a0I loved Yuki, and put her back in the crate and left.<\/p>\n<p>A few short days later I went to Canada to see my father, and the Bahrain strays announced they took Yuki back to the streets where they found her (she was getting fixed). \u00a0I was saddened and had to hope someone was going to love her and take her home. \u00a0Three days later, Yuki found her way back to the vet where she stayed for two weeks while getting fixed. \u00a0She went through very busy highways, dangerous areas to find her way back, and she did. \u00a0She scratched on the door to be let in. \u00a0The vet loved her like we all do, and let her in. \u00a0He then posted on facebook, Yuki needs a home. \u00a0She needs to be loved. \u00a0Someone dumped her \u2026.. She was used to being in a home.<\/p>\n<p>Oh dear god! \u00a0I am in Canada and I called someone at my house to go get her and put her in a kennel. \u00a0I didn\u2019t know what I was going to do with her BUT knew I met her for a reason. \u00a0She stayed in the kennel till I got back and she was well taken care of. \u00a0When I returned, she was put in training as I knew I was going to find someone to love her. \u00a0When my sister in law and her husband came to visit, they fell in love with her. \u00a0The rest is history\u2026. She is now with Donald and Claire.<\/p>\n<p>I thought you would find this story inspirational. \u00a0The cat named Cuppy lead me to Yuki.<\/p>\n<p>I am happy to say Cuppy and Yuki are well loved and well taken care of.<\/p>\n<p>Kind Regards,<\/p>\n<p>Susan<\/p>\n<p>Susan Stevenson<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2013<\/p>\n<h2>The story of my two turtles: EARL\u00a0&amp; PENI<\/h2>\n<p>From: Jennifer C.\u00a0[mailto:jc\u2026\u2026\u2026.@\u2026\u2026\u2026.com]<br \/>\nSent: January-21-14 1:39 PM<br \/>\nTo: Nicole MacDuff at Manoir Kanisha<br \/>\nSubject:\u00a0Picture and story of my 2 turtles EARL &amp; PENI<\/p>\n<p>In the pictures Earl is on the right and Peni is the one on the left plotting his escape.<\/p>\n<p>PENI &amp; EARL\u00a0are Red Eared Slider aquatic turtles.\u00a0 I got them together at a local pet shop in Hilo, Hawaii about 7 years ago.\u00a0 Peni is very fiesty and inquisitive and isn\u2019t afraid of anything.\u00a0 Earl on the other hand prefers to hide in his shell and hiss if he doesn\u2019t like something.\u00a0 They are both very personable and get very excited w\u00adhen it\u2019s time to be fed, splashing and climbing at the glass of their aquarium.\u00a0 They used to live freely together in a large tank, but as they grew older they became territorial and began to fight.\u00a0 They still share a tank but have to\u00a0be separated with a divider, although they still interact with each other through the divider daily.<\/p>\n<p>After deciding to move to the US east coast from Hawaii, I wasn\u2019t sure how I would be able to move my turtles.\u00a0 I called all the airlines and discovered that none of them would allow the turtles to travel in the cabin; they would only allow them to travel in cargo.\u00a0 I was very worried about them traveling in cargo as they are so small, and being cold blooded susceptible to temperature fluctuations.\u00a0 I was unable to find an airline-approved carrier that would be safe for Peni and Earl at any of our local pet stores or online and began looking for custom made carriers.<\/p>\n<p>I was so happy when I found Manoir Kanisha\u2019s website, the descriptions and pictures of their custom carriers were exactly what I was looking for.\u00a0 Tim was able to build a carrier specific to Peni and Earl\u2019s dimensions and needs.\u00a0 He built a carrier with a divider so Peni and Earl could travel together.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2572\" src=\"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/turtle-travel-crate-cage-transport-tortue-manoir-kanisha-101.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"458\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/turtle-travel-crate-cage-transport-tortue-manoir-kanisha-101.jpg 990w, https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/turtle-travel-crate-cage-transport-tortue-manoir-kanisha-101-300x229.jpg 300w, https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/turtle-travel-crate-cage-transport-tortue-manoir-kanisha-101-768x586.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I believe being in the same container will help to ease the stress of the trip.\u00a0 Tim also included a slot in the divider where a heat pack can be placed if they have to travel during cooler temperatures.\u00a0 I also really appreciated Tim\u2019s willingness to answer all my questions and concerns about safely transporting the turtles in cargo.\u00a0 The carrier Tim built is exactly what I wanted and I feel so much more comfortable sending the turtles in cargo in such a sturdy and secure carrier.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you so much,<\/p>\n<p>Jennifer C., Hawaii<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The Story of Boris<\/h2>\n<p>Boris was born in Australia in a place called Townsville, one of the hottest parts of the country. When they were just kittens, Boris &amp; his sister were found on the side of the road. Luckily for them however they were recused by a delightful vet nurse who was housing over 30 homeless cats at the time. It was here that we first met Boris and it was love at first sight! Boris went from being a skinny little kitten with rather large ears into a bulging bulldozer of a feline! However he could not be more of a cool customer! Boris invented relaxation! Growing up with two crazy toddlers pulling on his ears, snatching his tail and cuddling him to death barely draws a sigh from this wise old cat! He is not even tempted to chase a bird if any energy output is involved!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2858\" src=\"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cat-BORIS-Haris-in-YOGA-position-e1389581892340.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"513\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cat-BORIS-Haris-in-YOGA-position-e1389581892340.jpg 513w, https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Cat-BORIS-Haris-in-YOGA-position-e1389581892340-300x210.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 513px) 100vw, 513px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This photo is a perfect description of what Boris is all about\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Stay calm and don\u2019t stop snoozing even if you look ridiculous!<\/p>\n<p>Erin H. ,\u00a0Townsville,\u00a0Australia<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The Story of \u201cERIS\u201d the joy of my life<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI have had German Shepherd dogs for 24 years.\u00a0 In May 2013, having lost first my big boy King, and then his mother Ginny (at the age of 14) in the winter, I was ready for another dog.\u00a0 However, I was not up to the whole puppy thing, and decided to look for an adult dog who had been living in a kennel.<\/p>\n<p>The Kiefernfels kennel where King and Ginny came from is on a farm in Ontario, just north of Campbellford.\u00a0 They had a female, Eris, whom they were retiring from their breeding program, and I adopted her.<\/p>\n<p>Eris was born in May 2005 at Hellwigg kennels, to friends of the Kiefernfels kennel, and at the age of four months she went to live on the farm at Campbellford.\u00a0 She won some conformation titles as a young dog, and then started having puppies.\u00a0 She had four litters by the age of 8; a litter every two years.\u00a0 This is the difference between a proper breeder and a puppy mill; in a puppy mill she would have been pregnant every six\u00a0 months until she died.\u00a0 Here, she had just four litters, and then was retired.\u00a0 Her puppies have done well; many have gone on to get their Canadian championships.<\/p>\n<p>There are many challenges in adopting a kennel dog.\u00a0 I had faced them when I adopted Ginny, and so knew what I was getting into.\u00a0 With Eris, she had led a very sheltered life.\u00a0 Everything was new.\u00a0 Loud noises bothered her; the most frightening seemed to be the garbage truck.\u00a0 I brought her home to Montreal on a cold day in May, 2013.\u00a0 I could tell she was uptight because she would not pee. She just couldn\u2019t relax enough to do that.\u00a0 We walked and walked that day.\u00a0 Finally at 3 a.m. she woke me up and went out and peed.\u00a0 I figure she had gone about 20 hours without peeing.\u00a0 Eris however did know how to go up and down stairs, because when she had her puppies she lived in the farmhouse, and there learned about stairs.<\/p>\n<p>She did not walk at all well on the leash in the beginning.\u00a0 She kept trying to cross in front of me, and I think she was trying to herd me.\u00a0 She also had terrible separation anxiety.\u00a0 She would just freak out if I tried to leave her.\u00a0 I did crate her, but she destroyed her crate.\u00a0 It turns out that with some cases of separation anxiety it is better to leave the dog free in the house.\u00a0 However, she seems to treat the car as a crate; she is quite happy to stay alone in the car, as I always return.\u00a0 With time, her separation anxiety is gradually getting better, and I can leave her alone in the house for up to two hours at a time now.<\/p>\n<p>Eris was also uncertain around strangers.\u00a0 She had very limited socialisation living on the farm.\u00a0 I decided to take her to obedience classes.\u00a0 It would give both her and me structure to her training.\u00a0 Obedience school is great on many levels; classes are very calm, very structured, there is reward for good behaviour (treats!), and it engages the dog\u2019s mind.\u00a0 She couldn\u2019t be busy freaking out because she was being required to do work.\u00a0 She learned to be around strange people and dogs, and to be polite.\u00a0 She now heels beautifully, and the most important\u00a0 command she learned is \u201cwait\u201d.\u00a0 When I open the car door, I give that command, and she does not get out until I give the release command<\/p>\n<p>We completed the \u00a08 weeks obedience course, and passed. Not only passed, but we placed third in a class of 13.<\/p>\n<p>I am so proud of my girl.\u00a0 She has gone from living in a barn with other dogs to a dog that has her basic obedience commands and did so very well in class.\u00a0 She is the joy of my life.<\/p>\n<p>Judith P., Montreal, Quebec, Canada<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Cat care story<\/h2>\n<p>I have been having some interesting cat care things going on\u2013<\/p>\n<p>The neighbor who sweeps and mops the floors for me was using Pine-Sol.\u00a0There was a lot of vomiting.\u00a0 When we switched to just a little laundry\u00a0detergent in the wringer pail, this lessened considerably.\u00a0 But my one FeLV+\u00a0cat, who is in the farm\u2019s second house by himself, still was vomiting too\u00a0much, and bringing up rather thin, light gray vomit, much the color of the\u00a0clumping litter.\u00a0 I\u2019d see him licking the clumping litter.\u00a0 I switched to\u00a0recycled newspaper litter (\u201cYesterday\u2019s News\u201d), and in a few days I had my\u00a0old cat back.\u00a0 He was not vomiting, and he was eating better and acting more\u00a0energetic and outgoing.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what they add to clay litter to make\u00a0it clump, but it must not be good.\u00a0 In prior years I had used plain clay\u00a0litter, with also less vomiting, and had better-doing cats.\u00a0 Diablo, the\u00a0FeLV+ cat, might lick the regular clay litter, too, so I thought the paper\u00a0litter would be a better bet.\u00a0 Clumping litter IS a great convenience\u00a0because you can easily scoop out urine-saturated litter, making for less\u00a0frequent box changing.\u00a0 If it\u2019s getting them sick, though, it\u2019s not worth\u00a0it.\u00a0 I\u2019ve also been giving him occasional raw liver treats to fill in the\u00a0nutritional blanks he may have been searching for in the clumping litter.<\/p>\n<p>The vet said sometimes anemic cats eat litter, so on the strength of that\u00a0theory, I though liver might be a plus at times.\u00a0 I cut it up and freeze\u00a0tiny bags so I can thaw it out a little at a time.<\/p>\n<p>BTW, I\u2019ve had Diablo 4 years.\u00a0 He will test positive, but he hasn\u2019t been<br \/>\nsymptomatic, like most of the other positives I\u2019ve had.\u00a0 They had non-stop\u00a0upper respiratory disease, and needed constant antibiotics.\u00a0 I had one who\u00a0tested a weak positive, and then went negative and lived to be 15.\u00a0 The ones\u00a0with constant infections didn\u2019t last more than a year, though.\u00a0 I hope\u00a0Diablo hangs in there.\u00a0 He\u2019s such a charming beast!<\/p>\n<p>Buddy (9), who didn\u2019t have bad gingivitis, still is doing better after 4<br \/>\nteeth pulled that had enamel erosion, making them painful.\u00a0 I hope he<br \/>\nregains some weight.\u00a0 He and the 15-16-year-olds have elevated BUN and\u00a0creatinine.\u00a0 The other 2 old cats are due next week for dentals as well.\u00a0 I\u00a0hope they do as well as Buddy.\u00a0 Frankly, I thought Buddy was the worst\u00a0surgery risk of the 3 of them, and it\u2019s great he did as well as he did.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, this is costing a fortune!\u00a0 I have 5 barn cats and 3 other\u00a0house cats still needing routine maintenance.\u00a0 But it is great to see them\u00a0feeling better.<\/p>\n<p>Gretchen<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2013<\/p>\n<h2>Champion GINNY\u2026 a real survivor!<\/h2>\n<p>To read about Pets from previous months, see below Ginny\u2026<\/p>\n<p>According to her present owner Mrs. Judy P., GINNY, now 14 years old, was born in Peterborough, Ontario on Dec. 14, 1998. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2845\" src=\"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/GINNY-Haed-12-nov-2012-51-e1353175866437-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"641\" height=\"621\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/GINNY-Haed-12-nov-2012-51-e1353175866437-1.jpg 641w, https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/GINNY-Haed-12-nov-2012-51-e1353175866437-1-300x291.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She was co-owned at birth by Louis Goyer and Ron Peet. Her CKC registered name is \u201cVanlousvir\u2019s Sloe Gin Fizz\u201d, a fancy cocktail drink. She lived part of her life as akennel dog in Ontario and spent some time with Louis in Chateauguay, south of Montreal. When she was 2 and 1\/2 years old, she was bred to Eco-Lan\u2019s Percussion\u201d (Drummer) and I adopted one of her sons named KING. She only had one more litter after that.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2847\" src=\"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/GINNY-Janet-12-nov-2012-41-e1353175959544.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"641\" height=\"469\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/GINNY-Janet-12-nov-2012-41-e1353175959544.jpg 641w, https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/GINNY-Janet-12-nov-2012-41-e1353175959544-300x220.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>GINNY readily achieved her Canadian championship. Even at 14 years old, she demonstrates her beautiful gait. When she was seven years old, she developed an infected uterus. Ron and Jenn had her spayed to save her life. In June 2006, she came to live with me in Montreal and her son KING. She was a kennel dog when I got her and she had never lived in a house. She learned to go up and down stairs, at 7 years of age.<\/p>\n<p>In spring 2011 she was diagnosed with colon cancer and was bleeding out. Without medical intervention she would have been dead in a few days. The first treatment was an injection of an enzyme called aspergillis. This shrunk the tumour in half and the bleeding stopped in just a few days.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2849\" src=\"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/GINNY-Patterson-19-09-2012-46-e1353176143216.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"641\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/GINNY-Patterson-19-09-2012-46-e1353176143216.jpg 641w, https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/GINNY-Patterson-19-09-2012-46-e1353176143216-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After much convincing that she would not have the same side effects as humans on chemotherapy, she got 5 chemotherapy treatments, once a month. She never showed any discomfort or bad side effects. The cancer went into remission and has stayed in remission.<\/p>\n<p>In the spring of 2012 she had some bad episodes of upset stomach and breathing problems. At the beginning of June 2012 the vet in Montreal thought she just had weeks left. With the bad respiratory event at the end of July at the cottage, the vet in Barry\u2019s Bay, Ontario, thought I would be lucky if she lasted until Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2860\" src=\"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/GINNY-Janet-12-nov-2012-471.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"641\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/GINNY-Janet-12-nov-2012-471.jpg 641w, https:\/\/manoirkanisha.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/GINNY-Janet-12-nov-2012-471-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In October 2012 she was boarded at Manoir Kanisha for 42 days and came back home in very good condition.<\/p>\n<p>Here she is on December 26, 2012 doing very well. She is spending more time at Manoir Kanisha during the Christmas holiday.<\/p>\n<p>Ginny is just amazing. A real survivor!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2013<\/p>\n<h2>BAXTER\u2026 everybody\u2019s friend.<\/h2>\n<p>Born on July 14th 1998, Baxter is now more then 14 years old.
